Writing an Early Retirement Letter (with Sample)

Sample Early Retirement Letter
Early Retirement Letter
After putting years of work into your career, taking your well-deserved retirement can be one of the most exciting times in your life. While most people take retirement anywhere between the ages of 55-62, there are those who need to take it earlier than usual. When it is retirement time, it can definitely be a bittersweet period that is met with mixed emotions.

Gather Your Thoughts

The first thing you need to do when you know that you are going to retire is to write a formal retirement letter to your employer. This is a basic letter informing the company that you are no longer going to be working in the position you hold. The letter should be very specific and give them the details the company needs, like the date of your departure. Make sure to get all your thoughts together before writing a letter of this nature and to be clear and precise in wording.

Clearly State Your Intention to Leave!

The letter needs to be addressed to the person in HR or other department who is responsible for employees and their comings and goings. Even though this is not an overly formal letter, you need to address the letter properly with companies address clearly displayed. There should also be a subject line and this should state that this is a retirement letter. Clearly state your intention to leave and the date for your departure within the first few sentences. Be clear and to the point early and put other details in later.
After all the details of address and subject lines are addressed, it needs to have a salutation. Always start a letter with “Dear” and then the name of the person who it goes too. While the purpose of the letter should always go in the first paragraph, the second paragraph should be all about what a wonderful experience you have had at the company. If you want to make it a bit longer, add a third paragraph that will detail what kind of person would do best filling your position. Any additional thoughts can be included in supporting paragraphs.

Leave Open Any Future Relationships

Always make sure to thank the company for allowing you to be a part of their team and leave open any future relationships. While many people retire early, they may need a part time position in the future and leaving the door open for tomorrow is not a bad idea. End your letter with “sincerely” and sign including your professional title. Make sure to also put your contact information should they need to email or get a hold of you regarding the letter or future business. Here is a sample of a early retirement letter.

Sample 1 - Early Retirement Letter

DayMar Construction
12987 McCarty Lane
Powell, Ohio 43065
Attn: Karen Rhineheart HR Department

Subject: Retirement of Robert Hash

Dear Karen,

I have proudly served DayMar Construction for more than 25 years. I am sorry to say that I have come to the point in my life where I must take my retirement. Thought I understand this is a bit earlier than anticipated, there are many things that have pushed me to make this decision. My last day of work will be July 26, 2013. I find that this retirement is bittersweet, as I am excited to start a new chapter in my life but sad to end another one.

DayMar has been one of the best companies I have ever worked for. Though I started out as a lowly foreman, I quickly worked my way up into a supervisor’s position. I have found over the years that the company has always been good to their employees and made sure that we were taken care of financially. I have enjoyed working for a family oriented company that values the family unit.

When looking for a new supervisor to fill my position, please take into consideration the long hours and dedication this position takes. The perfect person will be someone who has already had previous supervisory skills and is not afraid to face great stress and opposition. I would be willing to help in the hiring process and finding someone with DayMar that can fill my shoes.

I once again want to express my gratitude for having such a great company to be a part of. I feel blessed beyond measure that I got to be a part of such a great team.

Sincerely,

Robert Hash
Maintenance Supervisor

How to Write a Life Insurance Cancellation Letter with Sample

Sample Format of a Life Insurance Cancellation Letter
 Life Insurance Cancellation
Individuals who wish to cancel an insurance policy will need to do so in writing. The letter will then be mailed to the insurance company via the postal service. This is the best method to contact life insurance companies and effectively communicate intentions. A letter also prevents policy holders from having to talk directly to the representative of a company. Writing a life insurance cancellation letter can easily be done by following a set of steps.

Review Policy Information

Canceling a life insurance policy can be done at any time. Life insurance policies do not have any type of restriction that limits rights to cancel a policy. Review the information included with the policy to ensure the proper cancellation procedure is used. The next step is to prepare a rough draft of the life insurance cancellation letter.
A rough draft can be typed in a text editor on a computer or a regular piece of paper. The first thing to state on the rough draft is the date. This needs to be placed in the upper left corner of the document. Write or type the name on the policy and their address below the date. Below the address is the name of the insurer. Include the contact person if addressing an agent or company representative. A subject line will go on the next line with the account number.

Request Cancellation in Opening Paragraph

Begin the opening paragraph by requesting the cancellation of the life insurance policy. Make sure to add a sentence stating that all charges or debits for payment be stopped. The next sentence should state the date when the policy is to be effectively canceled. Make sure to send any payments that are due if the letter is not ready to send before the monthly premium due date. The life insurance company will refund any premium that was overpaid. If the policy has a cash value, then request that the amount be paid by check when sending any premium refunds.

Sign Letter Under Salutation

Include a salutation at the end of the letter. This will ensure that there is no question about the intent to cancel the policy. Include the word “Sincerely” or use “Best Regards” for the salutation. This is the final part of a life insurance cancellation letter. Make sure to sign the letter under the salutation.
The next step is to create a final letter from the rough draft. This can be done by sending the letter over to a printer or by typing a new letter from the paper. Make two copies of the cancellation letter. Make sure to sign one copy and send it to the insurance company. The second letter is for personal records.

Should I Get Short Term Health Insurance If I Resign ?

how to get Health insurance after resign
Health Insurance Resign
Short term health insurance is a good option if you resign your job. This will cause the coverage that is provided by your employer to cease. You may end up with a gap in health insurance coverage before a new job is found. If you or a member of your family becomes sick or gets injured, then the cost for medical care will be expensive. These costs will need to be paid out-of-pocket and can deplete all your savings in a short period of time.

Alternative to COBRA

You can obtain health insurance to plug health insurance gaps that may be cheaper than the cost to pay for COBRA coverage. Premiums for COBRA are often high and are often more than an average person will receive in temporary unemployment. If you do not have extra money to pay for COBRA coverage, then a short term solution is the best option.

Benefits of Short Term Health Insurance

Health insurance that is purchased as a short term solution is available for a minimum of one month to a maximum of six months. The coverage provided by your policy will cease when the policy term ends and cannot be renewed. If you are still unemployed, then a new policy will be needed and there may be a waiting period. Individuals that have short term health coverage will be covered for any doctor's visit, diagnostic tests, complications due to a pregnancy, and hospital charges.

Purpose of Short Term Health Insurance

Policies for short term health coverage is provided for accidents and illnesses that are unexpected. Your policy is not designed to meet the needs that are provided by permanent health insurance. A policy does not pay for any type of preventative care and not the best option if a pre-existing condition exists. Most of these types of policies do not pay for maternity care or cover individuals that are currently pregnant.

Deductible Amounts

Policies that provide short term health coverage will range from a low of $200 up to $2,000 or more. A policy may also require a co-insurance payment after the deductible has been paid. This can be as much as 50 percent or more of a covered cost. You may need to pay co-insurance up to a specified amount on the policy before insurance pays 100 percent of the costs.

Premium Amounts

The premium that is paid for a short term health insurance policy depends on various factors. Your age and the type of coverage available on a policy are used to determine the premium. You may purchase a policy for you or for any dependent that is 15 days old up to age 65.

Comparing Short Term Health Insurance Policies

Policies for short term health coverage will vary based on available coverage and price. Make sure that you understand all of your out-of-pocket costs before buying a policy. You may find that the deductible applies for each doctor's visits or to the whole policy term. Read through the types of covered expenses that are provided by each policy and the amount that will be paid.
